The first same sex weddings on Australian soil have taken place, with Canberra men Joel Player and Alan Wright saying ‘I do’ minutes after midnight in an emotional ceremony at the National Carillon. The Australian Capital Territory's Marriage Equality Law came into effect at midnight, and 40 couples are registered to get married over the weekend.
