NEWS that Holden will cease manufacturing in Australia in 2017 has devastated Bathurst car enthusiast Sean Cogan.
Mr Cogan, who has owned around 30 Holdens over the past 24 years, said he’d heard a rumour Holden might be closing its Australian plant, but was still disappointed by yesterday’s news.
He has driven Holdens since he was 16, starting with HQs.
“I owned two of them, both HQ SS,” he said.
“From that I owned a range of Toranas – I think I had eight or nine over the years. After that I had a VB Commodore, a VC wagon, a VH sedan ... I’ve had about 30 Holdens all up.”
Mr Cogan said he had been a fan of Holden for as long as he could remember.
“I grew up with them,” he said. “My father had one. I think the main reason I liked them is because they were made in Australia.
“I know the engines, I learnt how to work on them. They’re user-friendly.”
He and his wife Cassie currently own two Holdens – an SSV and an SV6 ute.
He said he’s not sure what they’ll buy once Holden stops manufacturing locally.
“I’m not keen on imported cars. I guess it depends on where they’re coming from,” he said.
“If they’re coming from General Motors Holden in America, I might stick with them.”
As for his favourite Holden over the years, he said his current SSV gets that title, although if money and time permitted, he’d also love to do up a VK Calais.
