BATHURST had one inclusion on the All-round Achievers List for this year’s Higher School Certificate.
All Saints’ College student Tara Chan was revealed as the city’s most outstanding performer when results were released yesterday morning.
She was one of 1200 students to receive a Band 6 (90 per cent or more) result in at least 10 HSC units.
Her All Saints’ classmate Shaun Van Uum earned a mention on the Top Achievers in Course List for 2013, placing eighth across the state in Design and Technology.
All Saints’ head of College Dr Peter Miller yesterday said Tara was a hard working student with a bright future ahead of her.
“She is a wonderful girl, smart, naturally talented and hard working,” he said.
Tara received Band 6 resultss in all of her subjects, including chemistry, biology, physics and advanced English – plus mathematics extension 1 and mathematics extension 2, which she completed as a Year 10 student.
She is also an accomplished musician and earned the prestigious 2BS Bathurst Arts Council Youth Arts Award for 2012.
The school captain, who hopes to study medicine, said she was delighted her hard work and study had paid off.
“I can’t complain. I didn’t want to set expectations beforehand but I am really very happy with how I went,” Tara said.
More than 74,200 students undertook at least one HSC course in 2013.
Of those, 66,800 received their full HSC and almost 82 per cent of those students are eligible for an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR), released today.
According to the Board of Studies NSW, it took less than four hours yesterday for most students to retrieve their HSC results.
MacKillop College was proud that 25 per cent of its graduating class were listed on the state’s Distinguished Achievers List. Six students from Kelso High also made the list.
Grace Newell and Alex Neary from Bathurst High were at the top of the class, earning the highest level of performance in four and three courses respectively.
St Stanislaus’ College received 11 Band 6s and 125 Band 5s.
Eighteen per cent of students at The Scots School achieved a mark of 90 or more in at least one subject, and were particularly strong in maths and science.
The HSC Inquiry Line allows students to talk with Board of Studies staff who can answer HSC queries.
