IT has been a sleepless week for thousands of students who were nervously waiting to receive their Higher School Certificate results yesterday.
The Scots School student Elyse Owens said she could barely sleep on Tuesday night as she was rather nervous to receive her results.
“When I got up to check my results in the morning I was so happy and relieved,” she said.
The 18-year-old said was delighted to receive Band 6s in chemistry, biology, PDHPE and maths.
“It is such a big relief to know that all the study paid off,” Elyse said. “I really liked all the subjects I did, even if they were quite hard.”
Scots School deputy headmaster and director of teaching and learning Lynne Flemming said the school was very proud of its students.
Of the 44 students who completed their HSC, 18 per cent received Band 6s and 80 per cent had gained early entry into university.
Speaking for headmaster David Gates, Ms Flemming said the class of 2013 had worked consistently and made a huge contribution across a wide range of school activities.
The school had very strong results in chemistry, biology, mathematics and advanced English and is expecting a number of strong ATARS today.
Ms Flemming added that 20 per cent of students, including Elyse, were now undertaking gap years that had been organised through the school.
Lachlan Conyers is heading over to the United States to play rugby union at an American university for a year. Lachlan received all Band 5s and was glad to see his hard work bear fruit.
“I was really pleased with my results but I was a bit annoyed because I got 89 in two of my subjects. I was so close to a Band 6,” he said.
Lachlan said that he was looking forward to experiencing life at an American university.
“I’ve got no more worries,” he said. “It will be all smooth sailing from here.”
