Council purchased 449 Conrod Straight, which belonged to former Bathurst mayor, the late Nevil Barlow, in 2012.
The property and the remaining land went on the market for $700,000 in July last year, once work on the roads had been completed.
Council’s property officer Ben Campbell said the property was handed over to its new owners – a young couple from Sydney – on Monday.
“I can’t say how much it sold for, as that is confidential, but I can say the home went on the market for $700,000 and we are very happy with the price we got for it,” he said.
Mr Campbell said the new owners were very happy with the home and were looking forward to relocating to Mount Panorama.
“The couple are from Sydney and have come out here for a lifestyle change,” he said.
“They had been trying to find a property when they went on a car trip around Mount Panorama and found this.
“They’re looking forward to bringing the house up to its former glory and starting a family here and putting down some roots.”
Mr Campbell said council had bought the property to improve access roads and minimise the risk and inconvenience residents faced when full circuit closures were required for events.
“On the boundary lines of the property there is now a right-of-way for the residents, who will have 24-hour access and won’t have to be locked in or out of their homes when major events are on.”
He said council created a right-of-way up the side of the property and across the middle of the circuit and through the tunnel, allowing residents to come and go as they please.
Deputy mayor Ian North said council purchased the property when it went up for sale as it was on a strategic piece of land.
“It was a very strategic purchase that allowed us to finish up the access roads,” he said.
He said he wanted to thank and credit the landholders and the surrounding residents for allowing council to purchase the property and carry out the work.
Cr North said it was great to see the prime piece of real estate was purchased by a Sydney couple who had decided to move to Bathurst.
“It is really nice to know that they saw a house they wanted and saw Bathurst as a place to raise a family,” he said.
Cr North said the city is attracting people of all ages who are looking for a tree change.
