The fair, which raises money for Eglinton Public School, had something for everyone: rides, stalls and entertainment.
“I think it is the biggest one we have ever had in terms of participation and how many things there were to do,” Eglinton Country Fair committee president Emma Grabham said.
She said a highlight of the day was the parade which was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the fair.
“We had RFS and SES vehicles, vintage cars and motorbikes, St John’s Ambulance and a vintage tractor,” she said.
“Past principals and teachers were also in the parade.
“After the parade they went on stage and cut a massive birthday cake.”
Ms Grabham said students from Eglinton Public School also took to the stage to perform an anniversary song written by teacher Jenny Smyth about the history of the fair.
She said Saturday’s event had raised more money for the school than any previous fairs.
Eglinton Public School principal Graham Small said while the profits were still being counted, the day was expected to have raised more than $25,000.
“Lots of memories were shared,” he said of the 50th fair. “There were people who could remember the days of the greasy pig and bull riding.
“Their memories, in a way, showed that the essence of the day hasn’t changed. It was and still is a great community event.”
