Ihaia Firere, 42, of Blackall Range in West Woombye, did not appear before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court recently, and the matter against her was subsequently dealt with in her absence, under Section 196.

Police facts tendered to the court told how on October 12 last year, police were patrolling the Great Western Highway when they pulled over a Toyota Hiace, being driven by the accused, for the purpose of a random breath and drug test.

Firere produced her licence and underwent the breath test, which produced a negative result.

However, an oral fluid test produced a positive detection to cannabis.

Firere was subsequently arrested for the purpose of a secondary test which also returned a positive result to cannabis.

Police questioned Firere regarding her drug use and she admitted to police she had consumed two puffs of cannabis the previous evening.

Mr Allen convicted Firere, fining her $300 and disqualifying her from driving for a period of three months, from February 17, 2014.
