This month’s award was presented to Joanne and Peter Scott and Jacqui and Paul Koscar, who own 153 Lambert Street in the block between George and William streets.
The building is where Mrs Scott, Mrs Koscar, Elizabeth Berthet and Megan Kauter operate the family business J & J Bookkeeping and Office Services Pty Ltd.
Purchased around 18 months ago, the building was recently refurbished to blend with and complement the Lambert Street streetscape.
Various works on the interior and exterior of the building to fit the needs of the business have been completed, while keeping in mind the importance of retaining the heritage features of the building and blending with the streetscape.
Dunstan Constructions did the repairs and paintings, Bathurst Signs created the simple and effective signage and Calare Civil provided a structural inspection and advice.
The building caught the eye of the local District Branch of the National Trust, which was impressed by the discreet signage and the fact that the original awning struts were retained to add significance to the shop front.
Mrs Scott said she likes working in such a pleasant environment.
“We enjoy working in this building and in this area, with its ease of access and parking. We have even increased our client base since moving here from the centre of Bathurst’s CBD,” she said.
Mrs Scott said that it was a shame that more people did not do up old buildings in Bathurst.
“Visitors to Bathurst don’t want to see everything new. The heritage of Bathurst is important, it’s what makes Bathurst what it is and it encourages people to come here.”
Mrs Koscar agreed and said she loved the high ceilings and the lovely ambience of the building and streetscape.
Bathurst deputy mayor Ian North said heritage was of great importance to the Bathurst region and he was delighted to see the effort the owners had put into renovating the old building.
