There are hundreds of the beautiful blooms on display in the famed Machattie Park greenhouse.
Council recreation manager Peter Navin said this year’s display was beautiful, with early season flowers in bloom.
“The season starts in March and will last to the end of April,” he said.
“The display that’s put on by Bathurst Regional Council is exceptional.”
Mr Navin said the tubular begonias can be a challenge to grow, but staff expertise ensures a magnificent annual display.
“They grow from tube under the ground and only flower at this time of year. After that they go back into hibernation,” he said. “They can be temperamental and hard to grow, that’s why we have to give them specialised treatment.”
Bathurst’s begonia display has a highly regarded reputation across the country according to Mr Navin.
“Bathurst usually has bus loads of people who come from interstate and intrastate to visit this,” he said. “The colours and size of them are magnificent.”
Mr Navin said the begonias will be at their best earlier in the season.
“Come the sooner the better, because as the season moves on they start to decline,” he said.
Machattie Park’s Begonia House is open 9am to 4pm weekdays and 11am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays until the end of April.
The Begonia House will close on Good Friday but will be open on Easter Monday.
Entry is free.
