The celebration, Catapult Festival Meets National Youth Week at the River, will get underway in Bicentennial Park at 10am and will continue until 3pm.
Activities will include laser skirmish, sumo wrestling, flying trapeze, football fun, rock climbing, plus loads of circus workshops and performances throughout the day.
There will also be a heap of music by some fantastic young musicians on the Youth Week Stage.
Bathurst Regional Council’s youth development officer Megan Bargwanna said she thinks this collaboration with the Catapult Festival is one of the most exciting things to have happened during Youth Week.
The Catapult Festival is held in Bathurst once every two years, and this is the first time the dates for the two events have matched up.
“It is wonderful to be able to put something on to meet the expectations of all the young people in Bathurst,” Ms Bargwanna said.
“People will be able to practice their football skills with members of the Country Rugby League and the ever-popular photo booths will be there along with OCTEC Youth Connections.”
A range of talented young local musicians will provide music for the festival from the Youth Week Stage.
All the activities will be free except for the flying trapeze which will have a nominal charge. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
The trapeze will be set up on the island in between The Conversation and the river.
“This is such a beautiful space for something like this,” Ms Bargwanna said.
“There will be something for everybody, so we want to encourage all young people to come along and be part of it.”
Ms Bargwanna said Veritas House will be supporting the event by providing free mocktails as part of the Party Safe initiative.
She said the city’s youth service providers have also all been very supportive.
