Splendid in retro costmes visitors came to the Central West town from far and wide including from Broken Hill, Adelaide, Geelong and Sydney.
There were several bus loads and many cars that lined the widest street in NSW as festival goers wandered between Trundle's Hotel, Memorial Hall and the Services Club to take in the huge range of entertainment and activities on offer.
The addition this year of the Street Market Stalls, Buskers and the Fashions of the Festival all added to the atmosphere.
The ABBA celebrations included the very popular Singing Competition. Festival Organiser, Ruth Crowley said "there were several contenders including Alessandro, a backpacker from Italy who just happened to be staying on a sheep stud in Peak Hill who had the most astounding voice, plus a dodgy blonde wig!"
The new Fashions of the Festival was a huge hit. Contestants bumped and grooved their way down the catwalk and went to great lengths to look the 70s part giving judges Debbie Anderson and Lucy Leighton a very tough time choosing each category's winners.
Josie Charlton and Andrew Rawsthorne took out the individual awards for Best Solo Female and Best Solo Male. Best Decorated Window went to local business Lucky 7.
Later the Parkes Shire Concert Band performed a number of ABBA tunes and Parkes Shire Mayor, Cr Ken Keith, officially opened the Festival at the Trundle Memorial Hall.
"The students from Trundle’s St Patricks School performed two dances to ABBA tunes and were completely adorable in their sparkly outfits," Ms Crowley said.
The professional dancing duo of Aric Yegudkin and fiancé Masha Belash wowed the audience with their spectacular dance performance and judged the very competitive Disco Dance-off.
Trundle’s Alyssa Coursey was a stand-out dancer, as was Cassie Richards, both receiving winner medallions.
The feature performance by international tribute band 'ABBA's Back' again had the crowd singing and dancing as they expertly performed all the ABBA favourites. Re-formed for one night only, favourite local party band Rock Bottom, with the groovy addition of Michael Green, entertained the crowd at the Trundle Hotel until late.
Event organisers were pleased with crowd numbers, which were up on previous years with hundreds of people converging on Trundle for this unique festival.
