The Miss Showgirl competition is a long-running tradition, and co-ordinator Vicki Wilson said it offered an opportunity for young women to meet new people, gain new skills and win some great prizes.
Ms Wilson said there has already been strong interest shown in this year’s Miss Showgirl.
“There’s been a lot of talk and chit chat, and I’ve taken a lot of phone calls from girls interested,” she said.
Ms Wilson encouraged women considering entering the competition to put up their hand.
“It’s a great experience and gives us the opportunity to showcase some wonderful girls,” she said. “Jennifer Browning was one of our entrants, and when she went for a job at the ABC, the first question they asked in her interview was ‘tell us about Miss Showgirl’.
“The competition gives entrants the confidence to speak to people and meet people who perhaps they wouldn’t normally come into contact with.”
Ms Wilson said judging will take place on Saturday, April 26, with entrants interviewed for about 20 minutes by a panel of three judges.
The winner will be announced that night at the showgirl dinner held at Bathurst Panthers.
Ms Wilson said she is expecting this year’s competition to again be popular and thanked her sponsors.
“Cootes, 2BS, we’ve had a long association with Cityfit, as well as Gorgeousness, Easy Living Shoes, Sheer Indulgence and Just Hair. It’s really great these businesses have come on board and are continuing to support us,” she said.
Showgirl entry forms are available at the show office, the Western Advocate and 2BS.
