Two men – including one armed with a machete – confronted a 58-year-old woman inside her Green Street home about 12.30am yesterday.

They punched and kicked her to the ground before they fled with cash.

The woman’s ordeal follows a Freestone Way home invasion on March 8, where two elderly people were assaulted during the break-in.

While the properties are just two kilometres apart, Chifley Local Area Command crime manager detective inspector Luke Rankin said at this stage police do not believe the crimes are linked.

The woman in yesterday’s home invasion was treated by paramedics at the scene, while the elderly couple were treated at Bathurst Base Hospital.

Detectives from Chifley Local Area Command attended the Green Street property yesterday morning and a crime scene was established.

“We’re canvassing the area and forensic police have been making examinations at the home,” detective inspector Rankin said.

“We’re establishing whether or not it was a targeted attack or an opportunistic event.”

Detective inspector Rankin said home invasions across the state often target properties.

“Frequently we find they’re targeted events where criminals talk among themselves and expect to find things at these properties,” he said.

Strike Force Ledgo has been set up for the Freestone Way home invasion, and investigations are still underway.

During that invasion, two men, described only as in their late teens to early 20s, of Aboriginal appearance and wearing dark clothing, forced their way into the home.

The two offenders, who gained entry by forcing an external door, demanded money from the victims before assaulting them and then making off with the couple’s white Proton utility.

The couple’s car was later found damaged in lower Mitre Street near the Bathurst Tenpin Bowl.

Detective inspector Rankin said the days are gone when windows can be left unlocked at night.

“Report any suspicious activity to police, keep your doors locked and sensor lights are always a good idea,” he said.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed either home invasion, or suspicious activity in the area, to come forward.
