The owner of Bentinck Street business Harmonikos Music arrived at work yesterday to find a huge hole had been smashed in one of the plate glass windows.
Owner Cath Snitch said the business has been in operation since 2006, and only moved to the Bentinck Street shopfront location in September 2013.
Since then, Mrs Snitch said they have only received positive feedback from the community.
“This is the first time this has happened,” she said.
“The only good thing is nothing was stolen.
“I think they’re just mischief making.”
Mrs Snitch said the damage occurred some time between when the business closed on Monday night and when they arrived at 8am the following day.
Bathurst, like the rest of NSW, has had a drop in the number of cases of malicious damage reported to police over the past five years.
Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research data released last week revealed Bathurst had gone from 832 cases in 2008 to 614 cases in 2013 – a reduction of 26.2 per cent.
Across NSW, cases have dropped from 109,438 in 2008 to 76,054 in 2013 – down by 30.5 per cent.
Mrs Snitch said only last week there were a number of musical instruments in the space where large shards of glass came crashing into the store during the overnight attack.
“We did have a drum kit there and ukuleles in the window that were sold last week,” she said.
“I just feel really inconvenienced ... it just seems senseless. Nothing was damaged or stolen.
“I’d be a lot more angry if financially we’d been affected.”
Chifley Local Area Command crime manager detective inspector Luke Rankin asked that anyone who witnessed this case of malicious damage call Bathurst Police Station on 6332 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
