WINBURNDALE Wines has lodged an application to extend the liquor licence at its Winburndale Fine Wine cellar door at the Crago Mill Emporium, in order to offer customers more than tastings.

Owner and winemaker Michael Burleigh has lodged an application with the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority to have his existing producer/wholesaler liquor licence extended to include “drink on premises” authorisation.
He has also lodged a development application with Bathurst Regional Council and lodged a notification with the police.
Mr Burleigh said the licence extension would give those purchasing a meal from Cafè @ Crago Mill the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine with their lunch.
“With our current licence what happens is, people come into the cafe and want a nice glass of wine with lunch, but under the current licence we can’t do that,” he said.
Mr Burleigh said the licence extension would allow them to serve alcohol in the existing licensed tasting area at the cellar door.
He said customers who wanted to enjoy wine with their meal could have the meal from the cafè served in the tasting room.
“We have just had so many requests we have had to turn down and when I contacted the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing, they advised me to put in an application to extend the cellar door licence, ” Mr Burleigh said.
He said the “drink on premises” authorisation would allow him to sell other wines, in addition to Winburndale Wines.
“We would stay serving just wine, but in the future would like to expand and include other local wines,” Mr Burleigh said.
He said it would be great for Bathurst to have one area where people would be able to taste a different wines from across the region.
Mr Burleigh said the cellar door was in an industrial area and he hoped there would be no objections to his application.
He said while the current licence was for between 5am and midnight, the cellar door was only open between midday and 4pm.
Cafè @ Crago Mill proprietor Glenn Todd said he thought it was a great idea.
“It means people will be able to have a meal and enjoy regional Bathurst wines,” he said.
Mr Todd said they would be furnishing the tasting area in the cellar door with tables and chairs so people could enjoy a meal there.
Details of the application may be obtained from Bathurst Regional Council’s environmental, planning and building services department, Bathurst Civic Centre, between 8.30am and 4.45pm, Monday to Friday (public holidays excepted) until April 24.
