Sloppy play took up the first 10 minutes, with neither side completing their sets.

When they settled down, Cargo soon posted first points thanks to a try to Josh Lloyd in the 12th minute.

Grenfell then started to get their attack in order, threatening the Cargo line. They levelled at 4-all at the 20-minute mark through a Mike Miller try, which was followed by another try to Shannon Lee and a Miller conversion to make it 10-4.

The Goannas were now running riot over a Blue Heelers side which was disjointed, having to play players out of position and some new players off the bench.

Mana Aditagane extended Grenfell’s lead with Miller’s conversion pushing it out to 16-4.

Cargo’s woes continued with co-coach and half-back Tory Madden succumbing to an injured cheekbone.

They hit back however, with Josh Lloyd scoring a second try to bridge the gap to 16-8, 10 minutes from the break.

As the half time siren sounded Cargo scored another try to five-eighth Steve Maere to make it 16-12 to Grenfell. 

Stern words at the break sparked Cargo into action and on resumption they scored two quick tries to Lloyd and coach Dan Madden, with Duncan Young coming up with both conversions to make it 24-16.

Grenfell hit back when Aditagane scored his second try, and, after Miller converted, it was a two-point score line with 25 minutes to go.

Cargo made several positional changes which helped their cause as they racked in three quick tries in 10 minutes to push the score out to 40-22 with 10 minutes left in the game.

Grenfell then had a player sin binned, but they scored the next try through Mick Stallard with Miller’s conversion making it 40-28 with five minutes to go.

Cargo rounded off the scoring as the siren sounded with a try to Luke Wilson for the Heelers to win 44-28.

Cargo played to their strengths in the second stanza. Special games were had by Kaleb Weekes at prop, five-eighth Maere and players’ player Josh Lloyd who scored a hat-trick of tries in his first game for the Heelers.

Grenfell were the better side in the first half but according to the coach they fell off the game plan after the break. Five-eighth Mick Stallard, Dave Wood and Mick Miller were their best on the day.

The match at Condobolin, which was switched to Friday night, saw the Trundle Boomers big winners 38-12 over Condobolin, which has them undefeated after three rounds.

Canowindra Tigers also scored a big 44-8 win over the hapless Burrangong Bears, while Eugowra proved too strong for Gooloogong Cowboys 58-24 in the local derby. Peak Hill Roosters had the bye.

In the only Youth League game played, Grenfell Goannas won a close one over Canowindra Tigers 10-8 at Canowindra.

League Tag went as expected with big wins to Condobolin 32-12 over Canowindra, Eugowra 50-0 over Gooloogong, and Grenfell 32 - 18 over Cargo.

There is a general bye this weekend for Easter and round four will play played on April 26 and 27.
