The Brumbies are preparing for a blockbuster grand-final rematch against the Waikato Chiefs at Canberra Stadium on Friday, with plans to honour Anzac traditions – including the Last Post and four Victoria Cross winners – before kick-off.

The AFL and NRL each host regular Anzac Day matches every year.

But the intricate Super Rugby draw, which caters for travel schedules of Australian, New Zealand and South African teams, looms as the major stumbling block for the Brumbies securing an annual game.

The Brumbies hope they can convince officials they should host a New Zealand team on April 25 every year, especially for the Anzac Day centenary in 2015.

"We want to put in a performance worthy of the Anzac spirit," Test front-rower Alexander said.

"The way we can pay our respects is to put out a good performance. I'd love to see an annual fixture, 100 per cent.

"The Dawn Service at the War Memorial is something special and unique and I think everyone should do it at least once in their life. It's a humbling experience.

"With the Anzac centenary next year … I think having a Super Rugby game in Canberra is something organisers should look to continue. It's hard with the travel factor. But if there's a way we could work around it, I'm all for it."

The Brumbies will host all four living Victoria Cross holders – Warrant Officer Keith Payne, 80, Corporal Mark Donaldson, 35, Corporal Benjamin Roberts-Smith, 35, and Corporal Daniel Keighran, 30.

There will be a military band, two-up venues around the stadium and the Royal Military College will play the Australian Defence Force Academy in a curtain-raiser.

The Super Rugby interchanging home-and-away draw from year to year means it's impossible for the same New Zealand team to play in Canberra each season.

The Canterbury Crusaders and the Otago Highlanders loom as possible opponents next year.

The Brumbies are also working through contract negotiations with a host of players.

It's understood openside breakaway replacement Jarrad Butler could commit to a new deal in the coming weeks after stepping up in the absence of Wallabies skipper David Pocock.

Butler wasn't part of the Brumbies side that lost the Super Rugby final to the Chiefs in Hamilton last season, but said the rematch was a chance to prove their championship credentials.

"There's a lot of incentives to beat the Chiefs," Butler said. "As far as wanting to win the grand final later this year, you have to be able to knock off teams like the Chiefs.

"I think Friday is going to be pretty telling. [We] understand how important it is as far as the whole season's concerned."
