It’s billed as the country coming to the city, but it’s much more than that.
The show certainly has evolved over the years and these days it’s packed with special attractions including the Isuzu D-Max Performance Utes, the internationally-renowned Full Tilt Jousting team and, of course, a fireworks display that is second to none.
The Bathurst Agricultural, Horticultural and Pastoral Association has a history dating back to 1862 and its current president, Paula Elbourne, and her committee should be congratulated for their vision in bringing a youth education focus to the event.
This year primary school students are being encouraged to participate in all areas of the show and parts of the program include engaging these young people in agricultural, horticultural and pastoral aspects of the region in a fun way.
It’s a fantastic and visionary initiative because these same young people are future showgoers and, if they embrace the event, its longevity is assured.
We also need to congratulate our 2014 Miss Royal Bathurst Showgirl winner, Abby Crumpler.
The 23-year-old student was crowned at a gala function held at Bathurst Panthers on Satuday night.
Abby can now look forward to a hectic series of engagements over the three days of the show.
So, pencil in May 2-4 on your calendar and get down to the Royal Bathurst Show – you won’t be disappointed.
It’s another event that makes Bathurst the best place to live, work and play.
