Part of that money will be put towards a new emergency trailer.
The trailer will be used to assist The Salvation Army Emergency Services Team (SAES) and is stocked with cooking utensils, a barbecue and other items that are needed in the event of an emergency.
Lieutenant Aaron Reid said the trailer they currently use for emergency operations is 12 years old and is pretty outdated.
He said they use the trailer when they are called on to feed police or members of the rural fire service whenever there is a police operation or a bushfire.
In 2012, The Salvation Army set up the trailer at Carcoar Dam while emergency services conducted a body search and retrieval. They also assisted with the Lithgow bushfires.
“Whenever there is an emergency, The Salvation Army attends,” Lt Reid said.
Lt Reid said The Salvation Army has been helping people in Bathurst since 1884.
“That’s 130 years of helping the people in this community,” he said. “If we are to continue to do that we need to raise funds.”
The Red Shield Appeal Doorknock will be held on Sunday, May 25.
Chair of the Bathurst/Oberon Red Shield Appeal, Councillor Monica Morse, said it is only through the generosity of the people of Bathurst that The Salvation Army is able to continue to support people in need.
“By giving a few hours of your time on the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock weekend, you will be helping us to raise money for a new emergency trailer,” Cr Morse said.
“To volunteer simply go down to The Salvation Army’s Family Store located at 39 Keppel Street to collect a form to sign up.”
