BATHURST High have won the opening tie of the Astley Cup with a 485-315 point win over Dubbo College.
The Bathurst girls hockey side produced an 18-0 win over Dubbo to secure the victory. Yes, you read that correctly, 18-0 (95-5 points split).
Wins were also recorded in athletics (62-38 points split) and girls soccer (2-1, 67-33 on points) for Bathurst. Dubbo's sole win came in a penalty shoot out in the boys soccer.
Bathurst High sports co-ordinator Darren Hamilton said having the advantage before any of today's sports gave him plenty of confidence.
"Traditionally the sports that we have been better in were on the second day so we were really happy carrying in that lead to today's events," he said.
"The kids all enjoyed themselves, there were no injuries today and everyone played in really good spirit."

FRIDAY, 4PM
As the Astley Cup winds up, news has come through that Bathurst also took out the Mulvey Cup debating competition earlier today.
The teams from Bathurst and Dubbo debated the topic That The Media Has Too Much Power.
Bathurst took the affirmative view and was awarded the victory by adjudicator Rohan Fahey.
FRIDAY, 2PM
Bathurst High School has started day two with a win, securing the athletics this morning.
The girls soccer saw Bathurst win 2-1 over Dubbo with an Annabelle Meadley penalty goal in the second half proving the difference.
Bathurst dominated for the full match and went 1-0 within the space of just five minutes. A deflection from a Dubbo set piece levelled the scores while Bathurst continued to make plenty of chances.
A handball in the box gave Bathurst the kick and Meadley made sure of it with a calm finish into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Bathurst High began their day with a crushing win in the tennis, 15-1, which translated to a 94-6 split of the points and gave them a lead they maintained throughout the day.
In the boys' basketball, Dubbo picked up a 39-33 win for a 57-43 split of the points.
The netball followed where the Bathurst girls were defeated 49-38, for a 57-43 points split.
Despite a slow start in the rugby league and the threat of a blow-out defeat, the home side fought back to finish well and go down 24-20.
The 55-45 split gave Bathurst a 50-point lead going into day two, which begins on Friday with athletics.
"We always felt like the basketball and netball would be pretty close. Our stronger sports are probably on day two so to be in this position is nice after the first day," Bathurst High sports co-ordinator Darren Hamilton said.
