The program’s inaugural year attracted 20 participants keen to make their musical mark.
Rock School co-ordinator Mark McLaughlin said he started the program to bring something unique to Bathurst and open more eyes to the culture of rock music.
Prior experience isn’t required to attend Rock School, he said. All you need, naturally, is an interest in music.
“The whole idea is to let people know how easy it is to get involved with music,” he said.
It is obvious the program, which is being run this week, will be a success again just by the fun its participants are having.
The program covers vocals, guitars, bass, and drums, and explores solo and group performance.
Classes are being taught by Mr McLaughlin, Lee Wilcox and Andrew French-Northern.
Participants are able to have one-on-one tutoring to help develop their skills.
Current students say they are enjoying the chance to play in a group with new people.
Tomorrow night, Rock School will move to the Elephant and Castle Hotel on Keppel Street for a performance night where students can conquer their nerves.
“It will give students real-life experience,” Mr McLaughlin said.
Rock School is open to to all ages and registration is still available at a cost of $100.
It runs from 10am-4pm at the Mitchell Conservatorium until tomorrow.
