A MAN accused of deliberately setting fire to the historic St Barnabas’ Anglican Church remains in custody following a brief mention in Bathurst Local Court on Monday.

The matters against Patrick Johns, 34, of Aroo Street, Bathurst, were adjourned until August 25 by magistrate Michael Allen.
Johns was arrested and charged by police in March, following the February 23 fire, which completely gutted the historic church in Rocket Street.
Among the charges being faced by Johns are aggravated break and enter commit a serious indictable offence in company, damage property by fire, larceny, enter a vehicle/boat without the consent of the owner, contravene an apprehended violence order, aggravated break and enter and break, enter and steal.
All matters were adjourned until August 25, with Mr Allen formally refusing bail.
