The broad array serving this region is one of the things that makes it such a great place to live, and that variety of businesses helps safeguard the local economy against many of the downturns that hurt other regional centres.
Bathurst is home to hundreds of small businesses whose owners, with the help of just a few hard-working and loyal staff, put in countless hours to serve their customers and contribute to the region.
There are small retailers, professional firms and manufacturing/light industrial firms that add a rich tapestry to the local community.
There are also many major companies, some of them national brands, that recognise the health of the Bathurst economy and are proud to open outlets here.
It gives us the best of both worlds: small, local shops that know their customers and their region, offering outstanding personal service, and the bulk-buying ability of big names that bring city prices to the country.
And so the annual Crowe Horwath Carillon Business Awards 2014 are a chance for customers and clients to thank their favourite local businesses.
Hundreds of businesses have been nominated, and many of them are featured in a special supplement in today’s Western Advocate.
Take the time to flick through the 64 pages – you might even find a hidden gem or two that you didn’t know about.
We know every local business would dearly love to walk away from September’s gala presentation night with an award, but even being nominated is wonderful recognition for all the work these business owners put in.
Congratulations – and good luck – to all.
