TODAY we leave you with a photo from our latest Throwback Thursday gallery. Back in July 1974 work was just about to commence on the ground floor of the Bathurst Post Office building on Howick Street, but progress had been slow due to bad weather.

FOOD, glorious food. A delicious play by theatrical marvel Steve Rodgers, Food comes to the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre this week following sell-out seasons in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
A co-production between Force Majeure and Belvoir, Food combines elements of drama, comedy, dance and cookery in an erotic mix of words and movement.

CRONULLA footy fans are being invited to come and meet their heroes tomorrow night at the Bathurst RSL.
The team, in town for the big NRL clash against Penrith on Saturday, will meet fans and sign autographs following a private dinner at the club.
Bathurst RSL marketing manager Peter Feenan said the team would attend a private meal at 6pm and then be available to meet and greet from about 7.15pm.
He said there would be plenty of activities, including raffles starting at 7pm.
“There will be heaps on, with prizes and giveaways on the night totalling $1500,” he said. “We’ve got 35 prizes up for grabs, including 30 meat trays.”

POLICE have warned Bathurst residents to keep an eye on their belongings while out in public.
On the Chiefly LAC Facebook page this morning police have reported the theft of a mobile phone at a local food court.
A woman turned her eyes away for a few seconds to attend to her baby and her mobile phone was stolen from the table she was sitting at.

LEADING Group 10 first grade rugby league referee Nick Lander’s call to award a penalty against Bathurst Panthers for a nasty-looking tackle made in last Sunday’s match against Orange CYMS has been vindicated.
While the image captured by Western Advocate photographer Zenio Lapka presents a far worse scenario than what was actually the case, it highlights the fine line layers face in the heat of battle.
Keen to put forward his case for only awarding a penalty, Lander said yesterday the tackle on CYMS player Kyran Bubb was not malicious.
“It all happened in the blink of an eye,” Lander said.

A REPORT to Bathurst Regional Council has outlined the region’s healthy financial position.
Corporate services and finance director Bob Roach’s monthly report for July shows council had $79.5 million invested as at June 30.
This includes $53.5 million on the shortterm money market, earning an average rate of 3.89 per cent; $13 million in committed rolling investments [3.61 per cent]; $2 million in fixed, negotiable and tradeable certificates of deposits [3.85 per cent]; and $11 million in floating rate notes [4.02 per cent].
