Neatly stacked in the corner of the Bathurst Uniting Church playgroup was a staggering 236 dozen boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
It was all part of the church’s youth and children’s ministry fundraiser with a difference.
With orders available to be collected from 9am yesterday, it was clear local doughnut lovers were eager to get their hands on the delicious booty as the cars started rolling in right on cue.
Robyn, a family ministry resource worker with the Uniting Church which runs playgroups, a kids club, youth groups and Messy Church events, said yesterday the success of the fundraiser was amazing.
“We didn’t know what to expect, but it seems people can’t say no to a Krispy Kreme,” she said. “We’ve done the trivia nights and the pie drives and thought this would be something different. I had spoken to a friend who noticed the doughnut fundraiser on Facebook. Well, we thought we’ll have some of those too.”
Robyn said they had been thinking around 50 dozen doughnuts would be a good effort.
“And some 236 dozen doughnuts later we were clearly overwhelmed,” she said.
“Just for the record, in total we received orders for 157 dozen original glazed Krispy Kremes and 79 dozen of the classics, helping us raise roughly $1200.”
Robyn admitted to getting a dozen of each variety and says she will have to pace herself so they aren’t eaten all at once.
“One of the perks of helping with the fundraiser was that myself and three other ladies got to make the trip down to Penrith to collect the goodies on Wednesday. That allowed us to have morning tea down there and sample plenty of tasty treats,” she said.
“The manager of the outlet said it was the biggest order they’d received for this type of fundraiser.”
Nicole McCann was one of the first people in to pick up her order yesterday morning.
“I just love them and it saved me a drive to Penrith,” she said. “It was good to be able to help the ladies’ out with their fundraising.”
