Canowindra opened the scoring and led 12-0 after 10 minutes through tries to Nick Wilson and Aaron Earsman and two Matt McClean conversions. 

Peak Hill hit back through an Alan Dargin try and Jason Boney conversion to make it 12-6. Canowindra crossed again immediately through Stu Scott to push the score out to 16-6. 

The game was flowing from end to end before captain Jason Boney scored a good individual converted try for Peak Hill to level it up at 12-all, 20 minutes to the break. 

Tigers hit back with a Nick Mason try and McClean conversion to go up 22-12. 

Then we lost referee Wayne Prosser to a calf muscle injury. Touch Judge Ron Hocking had to take charge of the rest of the game. 

Right on half-time Dylan Coe scored and, when Boney converted, the Tigers were up 22-18 at the break.

Both sides went at it for 10 minutes when play resumed, then the Tigers extended their lead to 28-18 when Mick Mason and Nick Wilson both scored tries and McClean nailed the two conversions to make it 34-18. 

By this stage the Tigers were on top, running at will. Blake Wilson was next to score and McClean converted to make it 40-18 with 20 minutes left on the clock. 

The Roosters scored again six minutes later through Peter Miller. Boney converted to push the score out to 40-24. 

The Tigers scored three late tries to Adam Picoli, Aaron Earsman and Stu Scott. McClean’s two conversions had the final score at 56-24. 

The Tigers were too strong for a willing Roosters side, who also showed glimpses of brilliance throughout the halves battle between McClean and Jason Boney.

The Tigers were depending on Cargo to defeat Trundle on Sunday, which would see them go into third place on the ladder.

Well Cargo did just that, winning 42-26 after they led 24-6 at the break. 

Cargo was up 12-0 after 10 minutes thanks to tries from Tory Madden and Caleb Weekes, along with Brett Morgan’s conversions.

Trundle reduced the margin to 12-10 thanks to tries to Cameron Skinner and James Nixon and a Joe Moss conversion.

Cargo hit back when Duncan Young scored a converted try to make it 18-10. 

Trundle were down to 12 men in the 25th minute when James Nixon was sin binned. Cargo made the most of the extra man with Dean Wilson scoring and Duncan Young adding the extras for a 24-10 scoreline at the break.

It was 30-10 early in the second period when Tim Shepard scored and Morgan converted.

Cargo were down to 12 men in the 50th minute when Josh Lloyd was sin-binned, so Beau Tanswell pounced with the try, and Moss’s conversion made it 30-16.

Cargo’s lead went out to 34-16 on the back of a Hayden Hewett try but Trundle kept coming with Tanswell scoring his second and Tom Beeston converting.

It was 40-22 with 10 minutes to go thanks to a Mogan penalty and Dean Wilson try.

Trundle hit back through Brendon McAneney to mame it 40-26, but Morgan kicked a penalty on the final siren for the 42-26 win. 

Cargo’s Brett Morgan was players’ player and Caleb Weekes, his front row partner, was man of the match in a good, hard game where Trundle were always in the game. Trundle’s Cameron Skinner and Beau Tanswell were busy all game.

Eugowra won a high scoring game over Condobolin 42-30, while Burrangong defeated Gooloogong 40-16. Grenfell had the bye.

In Youth League, Peak Hill downed Canowindra 32-11 and Grenfell toppled Eugowra 52-0.

In League Tag, Grenfell defeated Canowindra 12-4, Canowindra beat Cargo 40-4, Condobolin accounted for Eugowra 30-6, and Gooloogong had the bye.

The top five in first grade after the final round are Eugowra 32, Cargo 29, Trundle 24, Canowindra 24 and Peak Hill 18.

The qualifying semi-finals will be held at Canowindra on Sunday. Peak Hill takes on Trundle in the elimination semi at 11am and Cargo plays Canowindra at 2pm in the qualifier. 

In League Tag, Grenfell takes on Cargo at 9.50am in the elimination semi and Canowindra goes up against Eugowra in the qualifier at 12.50pm. 

Minor premiers Eugowra (first grade) and Condobolin (League Tag) enjoy the week off. There are no Youth League semis until next weekend August 23-24.
