The economic benefits the Great Race at Mount Panorama are well documented and the trend is set to continue in 2014.
A series of classified advertisements in Saturday’s Weekend Advocate had on offer no less than 270 positions for working during race week for the Bathurst 1000.
The ads were placed by Summit Employment and Training with a heading “Bathurst 1000 V8’s event staff required”.
The first was for 50 labourers positions to assist in assembling and dismantling marquees, tents and other general labouring duties for the event.
“We are looking for physically fit people as heavy lifting is involved,” the ad stated. “OHS White Card, steel capped boots and hi-vis vest or shirt are required.”
The second advertisement, for 60 hospitality staff, stated: “We are looking for reliable, presentable people that have a high level of customer service to work from Wednesday, October 9 until Sunday, October 12”.
“To apply, please bring current resume and relevant certificates to Summit Bathurst.”
A separate advertisement was for 150 cleaners to carry out duties including cleaning of grounds, emptying bins and cleaning toilet blocks.
The work would be available from October 3-17.
According to the Bathurst-based Western Research Institute, the economy of NSW is $55 million better off thanks to the impact generated by the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, and that figure continues to grow.
The 2012 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Economic Impact Report was commissioned by Bathurst Regional Council to provide an accurate and current picture of the value the event brings into the NSW, Central West region and Bathurst economies.
The study found the popular V8 motorsport event at Mount Panorama generated 17 per cent of the net inflow of money to NSW derived from 56 major events and festivals held between July 2011 and April 2012.
