AT one point or another, we’ve all daydreamed about going on a permanent vacation in a place we love, never to come back.
But while most people’s dreams end come Monday morning, one determined couple decided to dream big and build their own year-round resort in their favourite country town.
The owners of “The Elms” in Hartwood Avenue, Wentworth Estate, who asked not to be named for privacy reasons, built the stunning 70-square residence after deciding to leave the hustle and bustle of Sydney 12 years ago.
“We used to drive from Sydney to Orange, where both our daughters were boarders at Kinross Wolaroi School,” she says.
“We used to pass this estate called Wentworth Estate which had only one house on it. I used to say to my husband ‘let us go and have a look at those blocks’, but we were always in a hurry to get either to Orange or back to Sydney.
“The day finally came and we drove to the top of the hill and looked down over the farming land and houses; it was breathtaking. We had the selection of many blocks of land and we finished up buying three blocks of land that faced north-east – the perfect aspect.”
With an experienced licensed builder as a husband, the project quickly took shape. From the empty hillside, a massive house took shape.
Driving the project from the beginning was a desire to capture the very essence of resort-style living.
From the moment you enter the long, tree-lined driveway, it’s like being at your own exclusive country club. With professional turfed tennis courts, a saltwater pool, immaculate acreage gardens and spectacular views across to the Great Dividing Range, you could be mistaken for thinking you are at a resort.
There’s even a bedroom in the garage with a private canine bath for the couple’s dogs.
Having renovated both modern and heritage properties in the past, the couple decided on a completely modern, open-plan living space to take advantage of the 360-degree views.
Yet with its nine and 10 foot ceilings and multitude of bedrooms and bathrooms, you have to remind yourself it is indeed a private residence and not a hotel.
“We built the house with five bedrooms and four ensuites (and one bathroom), with part of this equation being a separate attached flat with ensuite, TV/dining area and an upstairs massive bedroom that can sleep six people easily,” they say.
Having decided it’s time for a tree change, the couple have listed the property for sale; enquiries can be made to Ray White Real Estate Bathurst on 6331 2680.
