Allan James Stoddart, 32, formerly of McMenamin Place appeared before magistrate Michael Allen last week.
Stoddart faced charges including police pursuit, not stop – drive recklessly, break enter and steal, take conveyance without consent, drive whilst disqualified and possess a prohibited drug.
The court heard that on June 16 this year a vehicle was stolen from Orange. On June 19, police sighted the vehicle in Russell Street with Stoddart, who was well known to police, behind the wheel.
As police approached on foot, Stoddart accelerated away. Police gave chase, but it was terminated a short time later because Stoddart’s manner of driving posed a substantial risk to the public.
At the time Stoddart was disqualified from driving until 2036.
He was later arrested at a house on McPhillamy Street.
When police searched Stoddart, they found a number of syringes containing heroin.
At the time of his arrest Stoddart had a large amount of property in his possession which had been taken during a break and enter at K-Teens in Lithgow.
Magistrate Allen jailed Stoddart for 18 months in relation to the police pursuit and the break enter and steal charge. He imposed a non-parole period of nine months.
On the take and drive a conveyance without consent Stoddart was jailed for nine months.
On the drive while disqualified matter he was convicted and disqualified for a further two years from the expiration of the current period, and jailed for nine months.
The possession of a prohibited drug was dealt with by way of a Section 10A.
Stoddart also faced separate charges including break, enter and steal, take and drive a conveyance and drive a motor vehicle while disqualified (second plus offence) all of which related to a break and enter at Yetholme in June this year where computers, jewellery, tools, motorbikes and a box trailer were among the property stolen.
Stoddart was jailed for 18 months with a non parole period of nine months on the break and enter charge.
He was jailed for nine months for stealing the vehicle and for driving while disqualified.
Stoddart was also disqualified from driving for a period of two years from the expiration of his current period of disqualification.
