Instead, she will now have to use the money to pay out her insurance excess after an arsonist tried to set her car on fire overnight on Wednesday.
Linnea’s Suzuki Swift – which was parked at her parents’ house in Miriyan Drive in Kelso – suffered extensive damage after someone threw lit sparklers at it, wedging them between her rear vision mirror and the driver’s door.
As a result, the car’s window shattered and the rear vision mirror, dashboard and other parts of the car were severely damaged.
“It’s a little sad,” Linnea said yesterday.
“We didn’t hear anything. One of the neighbours rang the fire brigade and we still didn’t hear that, but about midnight police knocked on my door and said the car had been vandalised,” she said.
“They stuck sparklers in the rear vision mirror of my car door.”
Linnea said her car, a Suzuki Swift, was parked on the street out the front of her parents’ house, where she and her fiance have recently moved so they can save for their wedding and second house.
But thanks to the arsonist, the couple are at least $800 down as they now have to pay their insurance excess.
“The glass shattered and the mirror melted and inside the car the dashboard is all melted.
“I’m not sure how much the damage will cost; the excess is $800. They may even write-off the car,” Linnea said, adding the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
Now just angry, Linnea said she hopes the police can find who is responsible.
“I’d like them to come forward, but that’s not going to happen.
“I’ve put what happened on Facebook so people can keep an eye out. Whoever did this has no respect for anyone. They don’t care about anyone but themselves.”
