Two new drive-through coffee shops will open within days of each other.
Although it would seem a difficult position to be in, Bathurst is a city of coffee drinkers and the owners of these new ventures believe there is enough business to go around.
The Brew Drive-Thru will be opening up in Charlotte Street on the site of the old Charlotte Street bottle shop in about two weeks’ time.
Business owner Ann Parker said the business will also offer dine-in and takeaway options. It will have an industrial vintage feel.
Drive-though customers will place their orders, park and the staff will bring their treats to them.
Ms Parker has commissioned Bill’s Beans to create a special blend just for The Brew Drive- Thru.
As well as coffee, the business will be serving snacks such as pies, sausage rolls, toasties, quiche, cakes, muffins, cinnamon toast and milkshakes.
There will be indoor and outdoor dining.
For the past seven years, Ms Parker has run Play on Wheels, but decided it was time to try something new.
She chose the Charlotte Street location because it was convenient to town, had driveway access onto the highway and was close to the motels and sports fields.
The Brew will be open every day but Sundays initially, but this will probably extend to seven days a week.
She will be employing around five staff members.
Ms Parker said Bathurst people love their coffee. She is sure they will also love the convenience of not having to get out of their vehicle to get it.
However, with inside and outside seating, she also wants people to feel they can come in and relax and socialise.
Johnny Bean Good is a drive-through coffee venue located in Durham Street next to Eagle Boys and Civic Video.
Owner Chris Ridge said it is a great location, and he hopes to take a slice of the drive-through traffic as well as attract local customers.
Johnny Bean Good will serve coffee, 15 flavours of milkshakes, smoothies, hot pies, sausage rolls and muffins.
“I want everything to be convenient for my customers,” he said. “Every car is a table.”
He said staff will come out to the cars to take orders and then bring the orders back when they are ready.
Mr Ridge has lived here for the past five years. This is his first business venture in Bathurst.
He was inspired to open his own business during a trip overseas when he saw ordinary people having a go at running their own businesses.
Johnny Bean Good will be brewing its coffee from beans supplied by Orange Roasting Company. Mr Ridge said he will use local suppliers wherever possible. He will be employing four people and will open from Monday to Saturday, 6am-3pm.
“I have put on extra staff so no one is kept waiting,” he said.
“People deserve the best product available and everyone’s time is important to them.
“Why waltz when you can rock and roll,” he said.
