With dozens of new names appearing on the September 8 ballot paper, the Western Advocate has prepared a list of questions for all candidates to give voters a better idea of where they stand on important local issues.
Editor Murray Nicholls said the newspaper ran a similar survey ahead of the council elections in 2008 and received a good response from both candidates and readers.
“And with more names on the ballot paper this time round, there is a greater need for voters to be informed,” Mr Nicholls said.
The Western Advocate yesterday contacted all 35 council candidates and either emailed the questions to them or asked them to buy today’s paper to get a copy.
All candidates are invited to provide the newspaper with written answers to each question, along with a headshot of themselves, by Thursday, August 30. Responses should be kept short and we reserve the right to edit submissions for reasons of length or relevance.
Responses can be mailed to Candidate responses, Western Advocate, PO Box 11, Bathurst 2795, emailed to editor.westernadvocate@ruralpress. com, or dropped in at our office at 163 George Street.
We will publish candidates’ responses in the week leading up to the election, with the first batch appearing in the Western Advocate on Monday, September 3.
