Cr Rush’s election to the top job last year made him Bathurst’s fourth mayor in four years following single year terms to Cr Greg Westman and Cr Monica Morse.
Cr Rush said it was a privilege to be re-elected mayor.
“I also extend my congratulations to Cr North and thank him for working alongside me to bring stability to this council,” he said.
“I think that after a number of years of what some would observe to be a tumultuous time, seeing the mayor and deputy re-elected unopposed reflects well on this council group and sends a strong message to the community.”
A relatively new councillor when he was first elected mayor last year, Cr Rush has fulfilled his promise to make himself known to the people of Bathurst.
“I have definitely made a conscious effort to attend as many community engagements as possible,” he said.
“I can confidently say I know a lot more people than I did 12 months ago, and there are a lot more I look forward to meeting.”
Cr North said he was also very happy to be re-elected as deputy mayor without opposition.
“We needed to show some stability, and I think we have done that,” he said.
“The past 12 months of working with Gary has been great. He listens to my opinions and takes things on board and I do appreciate that.
“It’s also a great feeling to think our fellow councillors support us in this way.”
