A MAN had a lucky escape yesterday after police pulled him from a river after a foot pursuit near Dubbo.
About 4pm, police from Orana Local Area Command were patrolling Dubbo CBD and saw a man with an outstanding warrant.
Police said in a statement that the man saw the officers and ran.
Police lost sight of him, however, a short time later, further officers arrived and were patrolling Stonehaven Avenue where they heard a man calling for help.
They went to the embankment of the Macquarie River and saw a man in the river in distress.
Three constables, a woman and two men, without hesitation swam out to the man and pulled him to safety.
He was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital for treatment and is currently under police guard.
The three officers were not injured during the incident.
The 20-year-old man is expected to be charged with the outstanding warrant and drug offences later today.

If you had your eyes glued to the television last night then you already know that Matt Priddis was a surprise winner of the 2014 Brownlow Medal.
The win upset the the fancied runners but in a game so tilted to weight of possession and first use of the ball, he is a worthy one.
His is a very modern AFL story – overlooked in four national drafts, a rookie when at last he was taken in 2006, a player who has always got the best out of himself and is now distinguished as a master at making those around him better.
He is the first to acknowledge his lack of leg speed; the upside is that his creative toil happens under the umpires' noses.
"I was never going to give up because it was an absolute childhood dream," Priddis said
Have a look at the glitz and glamour of the Brownlow Medal red carpet here.
