THE legacy of police officers killed in the line of duty will be remembered on Monday, National Police Remembrance Day. Chifley Local Area Command will be marking this day of significance with a service at the Uniting Church in William Street starting at 11am, which will be followed by light refreshments in the church hall at the conclusion of the service.
8.30AM:
DRIVERS can expect delays when survey work is carried out on the Great Western Highway next month.
Roads and Maritime Services says it will intermittently close sections of Mitchells Causeway on Victoria Pass for up to 10 minutes at a time for continuing survey work on the road from Tuesday, October 7.
The survey work - part of Roads and Maritime Services' ongoing maintenance of the Mitchells Causeway - will be carried out from 8am to 4pm.
Short closures will be required between 10am and 2pm.
8.15AM:
A theft from a rural property has been reported to police. Sometime between September 13 and 18, unknown persons have entered the property at Wimbledon and stolen a large amount of fencing material and railway sleepers from a paddock.
POLICE are investigating a break in where unknown offenders have broken into a home in Garner Place Bathurst. They gained access through a front sliding window and ransacked the premises, however it does not appear as though any property has been stolen at this stage. The incident occurred sometime after 5.30pm on September 23 whilst the owner was at work.
A 30-year-old Bathurst man has been charged with driving with a low range prescribed concentration of alcohol, consuming alcohol while driving and driving whilst suspended. About 5.45pm on September 24 the man was observed by a highway patrol officer to be consuming a brown liquid as he drove past him. The man was stopped for the purpose of a random breath test which returned a positive result.

A QUICK look at news around the region.
SHOPPERS have turned out in droves to attend the opening of ALDI's store at Dubbo on Wednesday morning.
A line of people with trolleys stretched all the way along the $4.25 million new building before the red ribbon was cut at 8.30am.
A steady stream of shoppers filed into the store for the next half hour and many were quick to make their choices of purchases.
Televisions were among the products that were not left on the shelves for long, along with specials.
The Evocities mountain bike series, which will take in Orange, Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Armidale, Tamworth and possibly Dubbo, will run from February or March next year until September.
With Fairfax Media, the publisher of the Central Western Daily, announced the naming rights sponsor and contributing $35,000 towards the series, Dubbo mayor Matthew Dickerson has labelled the event the most lucrative of its type in Australia.
THE Portland Hospital complex could again return to duty as an important service to the community if a proposal by at least one resident is adopted.
The suggestion is for the old hospital and its ancillary Coleman House, a former aged care facility, to be utilised as emergency accommodation for homeless people as a women's refuge.
The proponent, who does not wish to be named at the present time, is well informed on such needs after spending much of his working life in the government support sector.
Numan Haider used a small knife to attack an Australian Federal Police officer and a Victorian policeman before he was shot dead with a single shot.
When Haider was searched he was found to be carrying a larger knife and an Islamic State flag.
Police believe the plan was to follow instructions from the international terror group Islamic State and behead the officers, cover the bodies in the flag and then take photos to post via the internet.
He had been the subject of police investigations for the past three months as he had became increasingly radical.
Schoolfriends said he showed no signs of violent behaviour in secondary college.
Police say he was part of a small group of Islamic Melbourne men who have been sharing violent hate messages.

A quick look at what's making headlines in Bathurst today.
BATHURST police are warning that drink spiking can be potentially fatal as they investigate an incident where a local teenager was found semi-conscious in a toilet at a local hotel.
Lauren Sullivan, 18, had been out dancing with a friend when she became unsteady on her feet and went to the toilet.
Thirty minutes later her friends realised she had not returned and went to look for her, finding her collapsed on the floor.
AND in other news BATHURST detectives have charged a man on a string of firearm offences following an alleged melee at Perthville in the early hours of Tuesday.
The 26-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident, at a home in Bonnor Street in Kelso.
It is alleged the disturbance started with a brawl at a house in Perth Street at about 1.30am Tuesday.
