Police from Chifley Local Area Command will join with fellow police officers from all jurisdictions in Australia and New Zealand in recognising and honouring the supreme sacrifice some of their colleagues have made in helping to keep their communities safe.
Chifley Local Area Command, duty officer Inspector Colin Cracknell said National Police Remembrance day is commemorated on September 29 every year.
“Chifley LAC will hold their service within the Uniting Church in William Street, Bathurst, with light refreshments to be had in the church hall at the conclusion of the service. The service will commence at 11am,” he said.
“Chifley LAC has had the misfortune of having two of its officers killed in the line of duty over the years, Senior Constable Clarence Pierie in 1960, and Constable First Class Paul Quinn who was later posthumously promoted to Sergeant in 1986.”
Inspector Cracknell said representatives of those two families will also be present on the day, along with the grandparents of Constable William (Bill) Crews who was fatally shot in Sydney in 2010.
“National Police Remembrance day holds significant meaning for all the people who work within the LAC due to the fact that police from within this area have given their lives in the line of duty,” he said.
“The Chifley Local Area Commander, Acting Superintendent Luke Rankin would like to invite all community members who would like to attend to come along to our commemorative service to show their support for their local police officers.”
