The passions of sporting fans from all walks of life rise to fever pitch on grand final day each year – and the Kennedy couple are no exception.
Some fans enjoy watching the game from the comfort of their living rooms, but then there are others, like the Kennedys, who love their sport so much they do whatever they can to be right there in the action.
And that includes a long road trip.
Their AFL grand final pilgrimage to the hallowed Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) started on Thursday with a nine-hour road trip south ahead of the decider between the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn.
They are taking their time to get there, but the AFL mad couple are looking forward to experiencing the final live for the first time.
Liz never used to be as interested in football as she is now. That is until she met Mark.
He has coached a local AFL team and used to play himself, and over time his obsession with the game has spread to encompass Liz.
What are the pair hoping for out of this game?
It’s simple. “A Swans win,” Liz said.
And their wish may come true.
This is the fourth grand final the Sydney Swans have been in since 2005. They were the premiers in 2005 and 2012.
The Kennedys are avid supporters of the Sydney Swans, a fact that is evident throughout their home. They have a tonne of merchandise including hats, scarves, T-shirts and jerseys, much of which they will be wearing at the big match..
The match kicks off at 2.30pm this afternoon.
