The competition asks entrants to submit four photos of any subject that tells a story.
Advocate photographer Zenio Lapka said some of the entries received so far have been impressive.
“A lot of them have been around motor sport, but some have also submitted photos from other sports,” he said.
Mr Lapka said he is looking for submissions not just of great photos, but of pictures that tell a story.
“It doesn’t have to be motor sport, or even sport, as long as it shows an aptitude for telling a story. I’m looking for pictures that tell a story,” he said.
“They’re the type of thing where you haven’t just sat there forever and waited to press a button, you’ve reacted to the action.”
Among the entries already received is an action shot of the late Italian MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli taken by Darrin Grose.
“I recognise this photo because it’s near and dear to my heart, because I’ve shot a lot of Grand Prix,” Mr Lapka said.
While another, submitted by Matthew Harper, is of a Commodore heading down Mount Panorama’s Conrod Straight.
“This one shows bit of planning and forethought. An image like this just doesn’t happen, it needs to be thought about,” Mr Lapka said.
Submissions must include four photos and need to be emailed to zenio.lapka@fairfax media.com.au by 5pm tomorrow.
The winner will score a day at the races taking photos with Mr Lapka, and a $100 Harvey Norman Photo Centre voucher.
