The exhibition opens at Orange Regional Gallery tomorrow night and will run until November 14.
Journeys West is a collaborative exhibition involving 36 artists.
Featured artists from the local area include Peter Marshall and Tim Miller from Rockley, Ingrid Morley of Tarana, Gria Shead and Rachel Ellis of Bathurst and David Lake of Newbridge.
Organisers say the exhibition celebrates the aesthetic visual experience of travelling west alongside the artists, the people the artists meet along the way, and the landscapes of which they have become a part.
The artists all live east of Bathurst ranging from as far north as Maleny in Queensland, on to the Sydney Basin and as far south as Jervis Bay.
They each take their subject and inspiration from connections and reaction to the landscape, found objects or encounters with people along the way.
The exhibition opens at 6pm for 6.30pm start, and will be opened by Member for Orange Andrew Gee.
It can be viewed from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sundays and public holidays from noon to 4pm.
Mr Miller said the exhibition has taken two years to pull together and was the brainchild of former Orange Regional Art Gallery director Alan Sisley, who died in February.
Mr Miller said everyone exhibiting has devoted their lives to painting and drawing, and each artist will submit three pieces.
Participants cover a wide range of ages and they are at varying stages of their careers.
People, landscapes and buildings have all been featured and a wide range of mediums have been used.
“What they have in common is that they work from life,” Mr Miller said.
Some participating artists are teachers at the Julian Ashton Art School, the National Art School, Griffith University in Brisbane and Salisbury Atelier.
