More than 35,000 motor-sport fans are expected to bring their swags and tents to town for the event.

With demand for accommodation in the Bathurst region at a premium during Race Week, 400 camp sites have been added to the Mount Panorama precinct for the 2014 showdown.

Cole Hitchcock from V8 Supercars says most of these have now been sold, and the remainder are expected to be snapped up soon. 

“We added the extra camp sites in the new ‘Enduro’ section created on the outside of the circuit at the end of Conrod Straight,” he said.

“The fans really love Bathurst because tracking ticket sales shows they are up on last year, which is a great sign considering some other major sporting events are suffering a decline in crowd numbers.”

Mr Hitchcock said the Bathurst 1000 remains the pinnacle of the sport in Australia and one of the world’s greatest motorsport events.

“It’s on the bucket list for many people to attend,” he said. 

“Lots of people keep coming back year on year and first-timers invariably want to return as well.

“Bathurst is just an amazing event. It appeals to people from all walks of life with a family-friendly atmosphere and any number of off-track activities during race week.”

Camp sites in the “Enduro” area are approximately six by eight metres to eight by eight metres and there is access to power, though fans are being encouraged to bring extension leads.

On-track action starts next Thursday, October 9.

Mr Hitchcock said that for many fans, camping is the only way to experience the thrill of the Bathurst 1000.

“Plenty go all out for the weekend, with amazing set-ups that add to the experience of the year’s greatest race,” he said.
