Following the breakdown of negotiations in the Fair Work Commission this week, Simplot Australia has been notified by the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) that certain bans impacting on production and maintenance will take place this weekend.
“As a seasonal business, and with the season now in full swing, the decision by the union to pursue industrial action is disappointing,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Our focus will be to minimise any damage to the business, our customers, growers and the community.”
Mr O’Brien said while there were constructive discussions at the Commission in a number of areas, there was little movement from the AMWU in relation to its four per cent per annum wage claim.
“This level of claim is unsustainable and irresponsible in the current climate, especially in manufacturing,” he said.
Mr O’Brien said the company remains open to continuing discussions with the Union.
