Brad Tilley's iconic bright-green XY GTHO Falcon is one of the best-known historic touring cars currently competing in Australia.
However, it has been a rare sight on Australian circuits this year after sustaining hefty damage in a crash at the Clipsal 500 in March.
Lacking the finances to immediately repair the car, the team has only gradually pieced it back together.
Tilley is now making a final push to return to Bathurst this week.
Against the odds, Tilley delighted Ford fans on the mountain in 2012 when he held out racing legends John Bowe, Jim Richards and Andrew Miedecke, amongst others, to win a thrilling TCM race in the lead-up to the Bathurst 1000 later that morning.
The Sydneysider and his family outfit have continued their push to generate funds via essentially, crowd-funding sponsorship in a bid to get the famous GTHO back on track.
Tilley Racing launched www.backthebeast.com earlier this year and are on the hunt for more support in a final effort to make the Bathurst grid.
"It's been a hard slog to get the car back together, not only because of time but the lack of financial backing," Tilley explained.
"Watching back the video of the 2012 race brought back some great memories of a great battle .. and what a place to fight for it."
