REDLAND City will be well represented at this weekend's Bathurst 1000 motor racing action when David Russell and Paul Stokell make their mark on the mighty mountain.
In what is billed as Australia's Great Race, the two Redland City racers will have quite different roles at the Mount Panorama circuit.
Redland people will see a lot of Birkdale's David Russell on their television screens as he juggles his right-hand drive Nissan V8 Supercar and the left-hand drive Porsche Carrera.
Russell, who will partner Rick Kelly in the number 15 Jack Daniel's Nissan for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will also drive in the Porsche Carrera Cup for Round 7 of its championship, filling in for Roger Lago.
His local mate, Paul Stokell of Wellington Point, will keep an eye on David from the control room as he assumes the role as driver standards observer for Porsche races.
Stokell operates a driver training company specialising in defensive driver training as well as high performance training.
This year's Bathurst 1000 will be Russell's sixth as co-driver and the fourth with Kelly brothers Todd and Rick. Last year, his race finished on lap 26 when hit a kangaroo that jumped on to the track and the car could not return to the race.
With the new Nissan cars in their second year of development, Russell would like to think the team would start further up the front than last year.
It's busy time for Russell, on and off the track, leading up to race day.
"We have promotional work with sponsors, a street parade and autograph signing," he said.
