They are bringing out some famous colours to celebrate a significant anniversary for one of their most iconic cars.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dick Johnson and John Bowe’s win at Mount Panorama – when the pair rallied from their 10th place start – the DJR garage are paying tribute by putting those colours back on the Bathurst circuit.
The winning colours – the familiar yellow body with the red and blue trim – were unveiled on Wednesday and will be sported by the #17 entry of David Wall and Steven Johnson.
Wall said it’s a privilege “to be part of this 20th anniversary and celebrate Steven’s first race in the main game as the main driver”.
“To have all that celebrated with this is very special,” he said.
“John Bowe’s close with the team and also with me personally so it’s nice to be part of it with the 17 on the door. I was here, I watched that race as a kid, so it touches a lot of bases with me.
“Hopefully we can tune this car up and be where we want to be at the end of the day.”
Wall will be fighting for his first top 10 finish since Barbagallo back in May.
He believes the team can take a lot away from a Sandown 500 last round that showed a lot of promise at times.
“We didn’t have a great Sandown where we came in 16th. We had a couple of little dramas we had to deal with to the end,” he said.
“We had a problem with one of the shocks in the car, but apart from that it was okay.
“We definitely didn’t get the result we wanted at Sandown but hopefully what we’ve changed will help us improve here for the Bathurst 1000.”
It wasn’t a perfect start to the Bathurst campaign yesterday for Wall, who got himself into trouble on The Chase with a popped tyre and brought out a red flag.
His right rear tyre blew out, but he kept the famous colours safe as his contact with the outside wall left only minor damage.
