WHILE there were a lot of crashes during yesterday's Bathurst 1000 - the safety car being deployed 10 times - the incident involving Warren Luff and Craig Lowndes on Saturday morning was probably the worst.
That both men were able to walk away from the incident really says something about the effort which has gone into the saftey aspect of the V8 Supercars.
8.05AM
WITH more than 60 clubs and centres across NSW and around 85,000 members, Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW is one of Australia's leading youth organisations.
Bathurst is home to one of those clubs and at the moment is is having a facelift.
No more boring old green!

ONE of the Western Advocate's favourite sporting talents - Kurt Fearnley - has finished second in the Chicago Marathon for the second consecutive year this morning Australian time.
Fearnley finished in a time of 1 hour 32 minutes 13 seconds, just one second behind winner Josh George of the United States and with the same time as third placed Ernst van Dyk of South Africa.
A four-time Chicago winner, Fearnley was disappointed not to win but glad to be back on the marathon circuit.
7.55AM
SOME have their love of the Great Race proudly on display, for others it is art.
A few dedicate tattoos to their loved ones. Here are the amazing tattoos spotted on racegoers over the weekend at Mount Panorama.
7.50AM
THERE will be a few very nervous Bathurst students this morning.
Thousands of students across the state are putting in some last minute study this morning as they face their first exam of the Higher School Certificate (HSC).
The HSC will run until Wednesday, November 5 and will commence with English Paper 1 for the advanced, standard and ESL classes.
Good luck to all of them.

7.35AM
WELL how good was the last hour of Sunday's Bathurst 1000?
After the drama earlier in the day when poor track condition saw the race red flagged, the race certainly delivered plenty of excitement.
In the end it was Ford Performance Racing's Chaz Mostert who claimed the chequered flag after Jamie Whincup's Red Bull Racing entry ran out of fuel.

AND in national news today:
BONDI'S Campbell Parade has been the scene of sporadic and cowardly attacks since backpackers and developers chased out the old beach crew three decades back.
Now another night of mindless violence in Bondi threatens to add the famous thoroughfare to Sydney's growing roll call of mean streets.
Less than two days after a young man was jailed for an unprovoked attack on Campbell Parade last December, another young man allegedly hit out from behind with his victim left in a coma.
THE government privatisation train is on course for a head-on collision with the parliamentary inquiry into "gold-plating" in the power industry.
At the very time the states are sprucing up their energy companies for sale, further revelations of regulatory rorting will be flowing thick and fast.
Gold-plating, or excessive spending on poles and wires, has been shoring up industry returns for the past six years - and driving power bills higher, although demand for electricity actually has been falling.
AUSTRALIA'S sole mission in which bombs were dropped on an Islamic State target resulted in its destruction, with the successful attack recorded by aircraft cameras.
Commander of Australia's Air Task Group in the Middle East, Air Commodore Steve Roberton, said this target was initially located and clearly identified by Iraqi Security Forces.
One of four RAAF Super Hornets on patrol over Iraq on October 8 then released two GBU-12 laser-guided bombs against what was described only as an IS facility

AN update on that earlier accident between Blayney and Bathurst, the lane for west bound traffic is closed.

MAKING headlines across the region today:
A DUBBO man was arrested after police seized drugs with a potential street value of $60,000 during a vehicle stop in the state's west.
An officer attached to Coonabarabran Highway Patrol stopped a silver Toyota Camry travelling south alone the Newell Highway about 30 kilometres south of Coonabarabran about 8.30am yesterday.
The driver had been pulled over for a random breath test, but while speaking to him police became suspicious and decided to search the vehicle.
DON'T put away those winter woollies just yet, Tuesday is set to be the coldest day in Orange since early September.
While yesterday was the hottest day for the week at a top of 25 degrees, Tuesday's maximum is predicted to reach a dismal 9 degrees.
Weatherzone meteorologist Ben McBurney said a cold front sweeping the state is to blame for the sharp drop in temperature.
AROUND 55 years ago, Denis Rayner stood on a scaffolding made of green gum trees tied together with wire, and helped to paint the Catholic Church at Ulan a "dreadful green" colour.
The church had been transported by truck from Moolarben to Ulan on the directions of his mother, Aveen Rayner.
In later years, Denis's sisters Robin and Julie were married at the Church at Ulan.

MAKING local headlines
IT was the $2 million Mount Panorama resurfacing project that was meant to improve the Bathurst 1000.
Instead it led to drivers sitting on the grid for an hour yesterday while crews repaired a patch of new tarmac at turn two that had broken up, causing a number of accidents.
One driver described the loose bits of asphalt as "marbles".
HE may have the top job in the state, but NSW Premier Mike Baird had a confession to make yesterday: he is just like any other dedicated fan when it comes to V8 Supercars.
In fact, he once collected driver posters.
A dedicated Ford follower for many years, Mr Baird had early hopes that Mark Winterbottom would win the Great Race before Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris eventually came out on top in the Ford Pepsi Max Crew car.
MOUNT Panorama's new debris fencing received a mixed reaction from race fans yesterday, one saying Bathurst Regional Council had gone "overboard".
More than $6 million has been spent on improving the track over the past 12 months, thanks to joint funding from council and the federal government.
Among the improvements were 1.75 kilometres of debris fencing and 2.9km of fauna fencing.
7.10AM
EMERGENCY services are currently attending a two-car accident which occurred between Blayney and Bathurst shortly before 6am this morning.
All those on the roads this morning please exercise caution.

Good morning and welcome to a new week. Another Bathurst 1000 has come to a close, but what a race! If you missed the action yesterday you can look back over our online coverage here. It is worth a read.
Today we can expect a cloudy day and already we have had a few showers. The Bureau of Meterology says there is a very high (90 per cent) chance of a thunderstorm - I've heard a few rumbles - with heavy falls possible.
It should reach 22 degrees.
Keep an eye on the clouds here:
