The young and talented New Zealander will start from pole position for the first time in his career, his hottest lap of 2:06.3267 seconds was the quickest in the session.
Gisbergen agreed that achieving pole position this year in the Bathurst 1000 was definitely a highlight of his career.
“Wouldn't say it’s my best lap,” he said.
“But definitely a pretty important one for sure.”
The consistent performer is keen for success on his favourite circuit Mount Panorama, not concerned by reports of temperamental weather on Sunday.
“This place is pretty scary in the wet,” he said.
“I hope it’s dry and if not we’ll try and deal with it.”
Gisbergen is well recognised for his brilliant car control especially in the wet weather.
The young contender to take out the Great Race on Sunday will sit alongside team member Jono Webb. Gisbergen will lead Ford’s Mark Winterbottom and Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin third on the grid.
When asked how he felt about leading one of motorsports most prestigious circuit on Sunday Gisbergen responded,
“I love Bathurst it’s awesome, it’s something you dream about.”
