The group from Sydney have made regular trips out to Cable Downs and in 2011, they came extremely close to breaking the previous record of more than 14,000 feet but this time everything worked in their favour.
A delighted Bob Moore said they were in the process of having the record verified by the relevant governing bodies but he was delighted with how it worked out.
"It's fantastic. It's been a great adventure and it demonstrates that sticking to a task has its rewards," Mr Moore said.
Mr Moore, along with Michael Richards, Roger Martin and Michael Jenkins, ventured out to Cable Downs quietly confident of success because of the promising weather forecast.
It had been the biggest impediment to their success in recent attempts but was perfect as they worked for the two days.
"On the first day with ideal conditions we made it to 12,778 feet and on day two we made it to 16,030 feet. Our previous best was about 14,500 feet and it took about 12 hours to get up to that height. This time it took a bit under eight hours to get up to 16,000 feet," Mr Moore said.
"After an hour-and-a-quarter we were up to 10,000 feet but the line weight goes up dramatically from there so it's a lot slower."
