But their fears were put aside, when the one-year-old Kelpie cross Cattle Dog was officially named NSW’s cutest dog, after winning PETstock’s state wide competition.
His owners Nathan Wright and Kirstie Tyerman said they were blown away when Rocky was selected by judges as the cutest dog in the state.
Dozens of dogs from around NSW showcased their finest features for photographers at PETstock all vying for the title of Australia’s Cutest Dog.
After the judges navigated some very tough competition and loads of ‘puppy dog eyes’, Rocky was officially crowned the Cutest Dog in NSW.
Nathan said he was completely shocked when he heard Rocky had won.
“We take Rocky for walks to the local dog school and playground, where he always attracts compliments. We’re thrilled that he is in the running to be named Australia’s Cutest Dog. Kirstie and I think he is pretty cute, we can only hope the judges do too,” he said.
Nathan said he heard about the competition after receiving a text from PETstock, and took Rocky down to be photographed because he wanted a break from studying.
Since winning the competition, Nathan said Rocky had been getting lots of treats, much to the displeasure of their other dog Charlie.
“Rocky is a very cheeky dog, but our other dog, Charlie, wouldn’t let him in the pack.
“So Rocky just started his own pack, with him, me and Kirstie,” he laughed.
Nathan said he and Kirstie were now keeping their fingers crossed that Rocky will impress the national judges.
If he is announced as the national winner, Rocky’s owners will take home a luxury-spec Renault Koleos 4x2 Petrol CTV Bose Edition valued at $34,990. The winner will be announced this week.
