Bathurst Harness Racing Club chief executive Danny Dwyer said the $7.5 million track was a long time in the making and it was exciting to finally have it open.
The opening also attracted a good field of horses for the 10-race meeting. The feature of the day, the $20,000 Kriden Park Pace (2,260 metres), was won by Fearless Leader who was driven by Lauren Panella.
