Stone Pine Distillery, in conjunction with Goldfields Honey on the Mitchell Highway, have produced a new liqueur to join their extensive locally-produced range.
Their new Honey Liqueur was released over the Bathurst 1000 weekend, and at 30 per cent alcohol, it is at the stronger end of Stone Pine’s liqueurs.
According to owner and distiller Ian Glen, “it’s fair to say it is our strongest liqueur”.
Honey flavoured liqueurs are quite famous in Germany, but it’s not commonplace for Australian alcohol suppliers.
Stone Pine’s effort, using local honey, stands uniquely apart from it’s German counterpart.
“We thought because we have such great local honey it would be a nice fit,” Mr Glen said. “It’s a unique flavour.”
Stone Pine uses vodka as their straight spirit in this product, which Mr Glen says was a natural choice which helps ensure the stringy bark honey flavour shines.
“It’s just a really, really rich, sweet honey flavour,” Mr Glen said.
The Honey Liqueur is now available at Stone Pine’s cellar door, located at 218 Gormans Hill Road.
However, the distillery is hoping to have the new drop available at Goldfields in the coming months, licence pending.
“We are actually in the process of moving our cellar door out there,” Mr Glen said.
“That’s what gave me the idea [of using Goldfield’s honey].”
Stone Pine’s Honey Liqueur comes in 375ml bottles at a cost of $32.
In the coming weeks Mr Glen will be experimenting with various mixer combinations, incorporating the delicious new Honey Liqueur, that he hopes will tickle your taste buds.
